Power Down, Snuggle Up

The sandman is calling, and temperatures are subarctic. To warm up, you

A) Invite all five of your canine companions to join you in bed.
B) Crawl under an electric blanket.
C) Nestle down with an organic or recycled blanket/comforter.

If you chose “A” or “C,” you are primed for slumberous bliss. (Although, that could be iffy with “A.”) If you chose “B,” then you should be aware of the hazards associated with electric blankets.

Here’s why it’s safer and cheaper to stay warm the way grandma did:

Reduce EMF exposure. Electric blankets produce EMFs (Electric and magnetic fields), which scientists have linked to a number of diseases and conditions, including cancer, childhood leukemia, miscarriages, headaches, and heart problems.

Save energy and cash.
You don’t have to be a math whiz to understand that using a nonelectric blanket uses no energy and, hence, will save you about $20 a year.

Be well, not well-done. Electric blankets are responsible for thousands of house fires each year.

Give the planet a break. Forgo pesticides and the production of new materials by choosing organic and recycled materials.
